GOLF & LEISURE 95 Place a golf ball in your pocket and address another ball on the floor with your current putter. Stay in your posture and put your putter to the side. Take the ball out your pocket and place it in front of your right eye if you’re right- handed. Drop the ball. If it hits the ball on the ground then your putter length is correct as your eyes are over the ball and on the ball-to-target line. The ball will drop outside the ball on the ground if your putter is too long and inside if it’s too short. It’s important that your putter is the correct length, because you won’t be able to see a straight line to the hole or swing the putter head on a neutral patch if your eyes are inside or outside the line at address. It can also be bad for your back and cause physical discomfort if you don’t get this right. 26. WHAT IS THE CORRECT LENGTH FOR ME? HOW TO FIND OUT IF YOUR PUTTER IS THE CORRECT LENGTH TO POSITION YOUR EYES OVER THE BALL. This will have a relatively hard feel, but creates good roll and usually very little skid. It can be slightly harder to gauge distance control but you’ll get great feedback on the location of the strike. MILLED GROOVES BALL\FACE COMBO The ball you use will also have a big impact on feel. For example, a very soft insert might not work with a really soft ball, as it could feel like hitting a marshmallow with a pillow. But that soft insert might feel great for you if you use a firmer ball.
